Wedding Reception Sept 2009- The Versions were perfect. They performed all night at our wedding party and got even the most hesitant family members up on the dance
floor. Their energy, enthusiasm, talent and professionalism brought the
evening bash to life. I loved the fact that Nicky took time and trouble
in advance to source, arrange and rehearse some specific requests too.
Here's hoping that they get some repeat business very soon, they deserve
it.
Wedding Reception July 2009- I was looking for some live music for my wedding in July 09 when a mate gave me a hot tip on 'The Versions'. There is genuinely no 'cheap' option for a band for a wedding but what had amazed me was the amount of average talent charging the earth - ie a very ordinary 4 piece band were looking for nearly £3k for 3 hours work?????
Anyway I had a mate call me to tell me he had seen a really hot band and got me their details. I called the lead singer, Nicky and we met for a chat. From the get go, Nickys professionalism and friendly manner gave me confidence and after listening to some demo CDs and popping down to see them play a pub gig I couldnt quite frankly believe my luck. 'The Versions' had previously been known as an originals band called 'Dont Kill Presidents' - they had amassed quite a following on the indie circuit, regularly playing large 2000+ venues and gaining genuine record company interest. As Nicky explained to me, factors had conspired against them and they had decided to do the covers band scene instead and have 'day jobs' that paid the mortgage.
I worked for NME for 3 years from 01-04 and thus have spent a lot of time around bands - some famous, some on their way up, some on the way down and can honestly say you wont find a tighter, crisper 4 piece rock band on the semi pro circuit than 'The Versions'. In every position this band is exceptional- the drummer and bass seem to have a almost telepathic understanding, put a top session playing lead guitarist and a talented rhythm guitar and lead singer and you would be hard pressed to find better. They are genuinely as good as a lot of big name bands I have seen when they were new on the scene, ie Franz Ferdinand, Jet, Kaiser Chiefs for instance. Their covers, whether a slice of Beatles or Elvis memorabilia or modern indie classics from The Fratellis, Green Day or Muse are as close to perfect as you can get.
'The Versions' were a great price (unlike some others) and went the extra mile on everything- learning five tracks specifically for the wedding that were personal to my bride and I. I simply cant impress enough how good and professional these boys are- there are a raft of bands out there who all seem to want a fortune for weddings and half the time play recycled lift music or worse. Dont do it to yourselves, get in contact with 'The Versions' and give your wedding guests a treat. Mr. I.A.
